ten on tuesday – books edition

today’s ten on tuesday is all about books! thanks to chelsea for hosting!

1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
usually something by david sedaris or jen lancaster. depends on how hard you want to laugh. me talk pretty one day or such a pretty fat are my favorites. for those with an iron stomach/brain, i also recommend tucker max’s books.

2.  Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
i’ve been buying lately because it’s much more convenient. i don’t like being given a limit on how long i have to read the book, and worrying about due dates and fines. i do have a library card, though!

3.  E-readers, yay or nay?
i’ve gone back and forth. i will always love books, and nothing can replace the feeling of holding a crisp new paperback, breaking it in and beating it up. but for convenience’s sake (and my shoulders’…), an e-reader wouldn’t hurt.

4.  What was your favorite book as a child?
anything by judy blume! who i recently discovered is all over twitter. i did all of my book reports on her books.

5.  If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
since i really only read non-ficition lately, i can’t think of a fictional character i’d want to be. when i was younger i really wanted to be sally j. freedman.

6.  What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
if the same people who made the devil wears prada made a movie of the second novel by lauren weisberger, everyone worth knowing, i’d love to see it.

7.  What is your all-time favorite book?
i can’t pick one, so here it goes: catcher in the rye, the invisible man, the great gatsby, the perks of being a wallflower, starting sally j. freeman as herself.

8.  How many books do you read at once?
usually 2 or 3…right now it’s 2. i’m currently reading the book thief and it’s really, really good. also in the middle of in defense of food, which is very interesting and thought-provoking.

9.  What is your favorite book genre?
memoirs most definitely. humorous ones. i really want to write one someday…even if nobody reads it. i also enjoy regular non-fiction if the topic is riviting enough.

10.  Which Harry Potter book is the best?  Or haven’t you read them at all?
i think they definitely got better with each book, but i’ll never get the image out of my mind from book 4 (goblet of fire) when harry and voldemort’s wands went all crazy and both saw visions, harry of his parents, etc. i remember when i was reading it how excited i was to see it in the movie (it didn’t disappoint).

  2. I loved Judy Blume so much as a kid. I recently bought “Just as Long as We’re Together” because I want to read it again as an adult and see if I love it as much now as I did then.
